Using the XNite Canon ELPH300NDVI camera, we can quickly evaluate the health status of a lawn. The ELPH300NDVI can become an indispensable tool for those in the lawn care industry to diagnose and evaluate lawn as well as showing the customer where work needs to be done.
Images were processed with free software program ImageJ and our custom macro aNDVI8_MKII macro. We have since phased out ImageJ in favor of our new software RSE which is much faster and easier to use. Customers of our remote sensing camera can purchase RSE at a discounted price. All images were processed with the same macro with the same settings. All images shot the same day between 2:30 and 3:00 PM EST on a sunny day in Northern New Jersey, USA. These images were taken in the early days of spring where the grass mostly green while the leaves have not budded on the trees..
Areas are graded where colors are assigned to vegetation health
Green | Vegetation - Excellent |
Yellow Green | Vegetation - Good |
Yellow | Vegetation - Moderate Stress |
Orange | Vegetation - Stressed |
Red | Vegetation - Very Stressed |
Purple | Non - Vegetation such as sky |
Black | Non - Vegetation such as rock |
